You may think that there are only a few family activities to do here in Phnom Penh, but you’d be mistaken; Phnom Penh offers many attractions suitable for families. Here are some of the family activities we think are great if you and your family are new to Phnom Penh, or you’re just looking for something new to do.
Playground at Wat Phnom
If you are looking for a place to let your kids run around safely, the playground at Wat Phnom is the best place to do it. It is a well-kept and clean place, suitable for kids and school children to explore. It is advisable to visit the playground in the morning or late afternoon to beat the heat. While your children are playing, you can buy some fruit and popcorn from nearby local vendors to snack on, and maybe catch up on the book that you didn’t have time for yet.
Phnom Penh Water Park
Phnom Penh Water Park offers pools for both children & adults. The variety of waterslides, jungle gym and lots of shallow areas for smaller ones makes it the perfect place to bring your kids to cool off in Phnom Penh’s hot weather. The best time to visit is during the weekends as the larger slides are typically turned off during the weekdays.
LyLa Center is a sports and family recreational destination where families can spend their day relaxing or participate in leisure activities. LyLa caters to adults and kids. Their main attraction includes a children’s play pool, fitness centers, dance studios, botanic gardens and cafes to fill up your stomach. It is everything you need under one roof.
Sandbox at Le Jardin
Le Jardin is a family oriented café with a giant sandbox and playhouse for the kids. Parents with young ones who just want to take the afternoon off can come here to do just that. While you leave your children to roam and play around in the sandbox and playhouse, you can enjoy your alone time while having snacks and tidbits offered by Le Jardin.
Fish feeding at the National Museum
The National Museum in Phnom Penh is a great place to relax. The museum also offers great artefacts and photographs from historical sites around Cambodia which are sure to fascinate the family. There are four ponds filled with Koi to keep your kids busy while you admire the well-kept landscape.
Bring your kids toy shopping at the markets
It might sound weird at first, but the markets in Phnom Penh, especially the Central Market, Russian Market and the Weekend Market offer a variety of goods ranging from foods to historical glassware to children’s toys. If you are lucky enough, you might pick up something valuable to bring back home as souvenir.
Sunset cruise along Phnom Penh’s riverfront
Take a short cruise along Phnom Penh’s riverfront and see the amazing view of the city as the boat slowly takes you past the Royal Palace and across to the floating fishing villages. If you are not up for the cruise, the riverfront in Phnom Penh comes to life in the evening with families out walking. It is a great place to observe how the locals live their day to day life, and watch fishermen bringing back their catch of the day.
And of course… explore Kids City!
If you have restless kids or just have the need to be adventurous; take a trip down to Kids City to try out a variety of indoor play. Kids City has activities that cater to all ages. You will have no issues leaving your teenage child or your children here as there is a lot to be done. From playgrounds to Laser Tag arenas, Kids City has everything to keep you and your family busy for the day. Feeling brave? Kids City has 28 different walls for you and your kids to climb. If you are feeling hungry, you could always stop by Gloria Jean’s for cakes and a cup of coffee.
